1 Samuel 15:17-19 NIV 17 Samuel said, “Although you were once small in your own eyes, did you not become the head of the tribes of Israel? The LORD anointed you king over Israel. 18 And he sent you on a mission, saying, ‘Go and completely destroy those wicked people, the Amalekites; wage war against them until you have wiped them out.’ 19 Why did you not obey the LORD? Why did you pounce on the plunder and do evil in the eyes of the LORD?” Today’s scripture outlines Saul’s disobedience to God. God gave him a direct command and Saul disobeyed. As I studied this story, I could not help but think how often God speaks into our lives and tells us to get rid of some stuff. Being that God is our creator and that he is all-seeing and all-knowing, we can rest assured that he has nothing but the best intentions for us. When God says get rid of it ALL, we should be willing to let it die. Symbolically, the Amalekite nation represents cruelty and cowardice. In a sense God was commanding Saul to rid the land of fear and cruelty so that it would not present itself as an obstacle for the Israelites. When Saul did not follow through with the Lord’s command, he was rejected by God and removed as king. What has God commanded you to get rid of? Self-pity, jealousy, fear, doubt or just plain sin? The Lord has commanded; “Go and completely destroy….”, not only will God’s will be done, but the church body will be better off because of your obedience to the Lord! Much Love, Mrs. Misenheimer Luke 1:45
